Plastic Surgery 101 | The Importance of Epicanthoplasty

Plastic Surgery 101 | The Importance of Epicanthoplasty

/

Contrary to popular belief, double eyelid surgery itself is not enough to enhance the overall appearance of the eyes. In this blogpost, we're going to show you other types of surgeries that can be added on to double eyelid surgery, or choosing a completely different option to further improve the shape of the eyes.

Just like any other procedures, it is crucial to consider the shape of the face and eyes of each person, in order for the patient to be satisfied with the outcome.

Epicanthoplasty can bring a dramatic improvement when added to double eyelid surgery, especially for short horizontal eyes. Performing double eyelid surgery on this type of eyes can result in unnatural looking eyes when compared to the rest of the face. Patients with severe epicanthal fold covering who only underwent double eyelid surgery often returns to the clinic to undergo revisional surgery.

When performing epicanthoplasty, it is important to carefully redistribute the skin. If the procedure is not executed with care, it can leave visible scars on the inner corner of the eyes.

When patients only get double eyelid surgery without ptosis correction, they get revisional surgery in the future.  (Patients with ptosis, who need to use muscles around the eye area to keep the eyes open also gets revisional surgery when they only get double eyelid surgery without ptosis correction. Often times it doesn't serve to make the eyes appear more open when done without ptosis correction.)

Epicanthoplasty and ptosis correction can bring positive noticeable changes if double eyelid surgery alone was not enough to bring the results the patients were hoping for. Patented surgical procedure performed by experienced and talented surgeon, epicanthoplasty at Migo is known for fast recovering and not leaving any scars.

In addition, we are known for non-incisional ptosis correction. As the name indicates, this procedure does not require incisions, which means that less time is required to complete the procedure (within 30 minutes), patients are discharged on the same day as the procedure, and no time is needed on stitch removal.

Blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that enhances the shape of the eyes, are performed by Dr. Ko Hanwoong Migo. Dr. Ko is a board certified surgeon with more than 10 years of experience in performing numerous surgeries, has published four studies, and is a clinical professor at Korea University Medical School. He also regularly attends international medical and academic seminars to keep up with the ever evolving technologies in plastic surgery. He has a one on one consultation with the patient and determines the shape and design that will compliment and enhance the overall face, as well as the best suited surgical method for each patient.
