[Breast Reduction: Mammoplasty] Surgery Procedures for Breast Reduction

Breasts that are too large can cause problems such as chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, restricted activity, and difficulty fitting into bras and clothing. Even though the surgery can be done at any age, it is best to wait until the breasts are fully developed. You may also postpone breast reduction surgery until your family is complete. Changes to breast tissue during or after pregnancy can affect the surgical results. Breastfeeding may also be a challenge after breast reduction surgery.

There are three types of breast reduction surgery, categorized by the incisional method:
