[Mammoplasty] Pre and Post Operative Care Tips for Breast Augmentation
To help prospective patients who want to get mammoplasty, we decided to share a list of things patients need to follow before, on the day of and after the surgery. The tips shared on this post can be applicable to any type of plastic surgical procedure that concerns the breast area.
<Before the Surgery>
Make sure the date of surgery does not coincide with the first or second day of menstruation.
Avoid catching cold/flu.
Stop taking aspirin, contraceptives, hormones, traditional Chinese medicine, and vitamin E from two weeks prior to the surgery. Please let the surgeons/clinic know if there are any other medication that are being taken at the moment.
Let the surgeon know if there's any allergy, or sensitivity to medication. Also communicate if you are currently suffering from any disease, and/or if you've been hospitalized in the past.
Quit smoking and drinking one week prior to the surgery date
<Surgery Day>
Fast from 8 hours before the surgery, including water, chewing gum, and tobacco.
Bring an extra darker colored button down shirt larger than your normal size to wear when being discharged.
Shave the armpit if you opt to insert implant material through the armpit.
Do not put moisturizer on the upper body on the day of surgery, before or after.
Do not bring valuables to the clinic.
Remove nail polish before coming to the clinic.
<After the Surgery>
The clinic will prescribe 5 days worth of medicine to be taken orally. Make sure to take according to the instruction.
Dr. Yoon operates with dissolvable thread and bio compatible adhesive, so there is no need for stitch removal.
It is common for patients to feel dizzy, which makes it difficult to concentrate during driving. We recommend patients to book lodging close to the clinic, or take taxi or public transportation.
Wear post surgery bra for 5 to 6 days, then change into sports bra from then onwards.
Breast massage must be done once to twice a week for the first month for patients who opted for smooth surface cohesive gel implants. Afterwards, it can be done once every week to two weeks for the first two to three months. No need for massage for patients who opted for textured surface implants.
In case of incisions made near or on the nippples, 3M adhesive bandage will be put for 2-3 months.
We recommend patients to take 1000iu of Vitamin E beginning from 7 days after the surgery for 9 months. We also recommend one pill of acolate to be taken morning and evening each for two to three months.
