[Eyes: Blepharoplasty] The Difference Between Ptosis Correction and Double Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid ptosis (Toe-sis) refers to a condition of the eyelid drooping or falling. If left untreated, it can lead to vision problems, including astigmatism and amblyopia. It usually occurs congenitally. However, there are some patients who develop it later, as a result of fatigue of the eyelid muscles from excessive use of digital devices.

Double eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure to make the eyes more defined and bigger by creating the eyelid line, where as ptosis correction is done to strengthen the eyelid muscles to keep the eyes open on its own without using muscles in the other areas of the face.

Sometimes ptosis correction is more in need than double eyelid surgery. If a patient who's in need of ptosis correction only get double eyelid surgery, it can cause the eyelid to fall, or worsen the symptom of ptosis, so it is important to get the consultation to choose which surgical procedure best suits your need. Dr. Ko Hanwoong at our clinic has mentioned that often times, patients walk in thinking they want a double eyelid surgery, but they're more in need of ptosis correction.
