How to Choose the Right Clinic for Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeries create permanent to semi permanent changes in the body, and often times, it affects the function of the particular part, as well as the appearance. With the increase of people who are willing to alter their appearance via surgeries, more and more clinics offer promotions and events to attract more clients. However, careless selection of the clinic/surgeon may lead to unsatisfactory results, which may give rise to the necessity of revisional surgeries.

Dr. Kang Euntaek has shared five tips on how to choose the right clinic, in order to minimize the chances of revisional surgeries.

1. Find out the what type of credentials and experiences the surgeon has: Nothing beats actual experience and number of surgery sessions the surgeon has. More experienced surgeons are more likely to render more satisfying result.

2. Check to make sure the clinic has plastic surgeon who specializes in the particular part of the body you want to consult with: If a surgeon operates on multiple areas outside of their expertise, the technical abilities of the surgeon may not be on par with those who only operate on their area of specialty.

3. Verify that the surgeon who had consultation with you is the same surgeon who is performing the surgery: In some clinics, surgeons with more experience may consult the patient prior to the surgery. However, the actual surgeon who perform on the day could be the ones with less experience, or not even a board certified surgeon that works in the same clinic. This is something that must be checked, and agreed on before going into the surgery.

4. The clinic must be prepared for emergency:  The clinic/hospital should also keep equipment for anesthesia and monitoring, as well as a system to keep the facility aseptic.

5. There must be an in-house, full time anesthesiologist: An anesthesiologist must check the patient frequently in order to prevent any type of accident or emergency that may arise.
