[Breast Augmentation: Mammoplasty] Pros and Cons of Endoscopic Breast Augmentation
It hasn't been long since endoscopy was being used in breast augmentation procedures. The first attempt was made in ten years ago. However, it was unsuccessful, because the quality of the camera being used at that time was not as precise and high quality as the ones that are available nowadays. Thanks to the advancement of medical technology, the definition of endoscopic camera is much higher, and it is helpful to completing successful procedures.
Breast augmentation procedures require separation of the tissues to create pocket for the implant materials to be inserted in. Endoscopy enables separating the tissues with more precision, which leads to no to minimal bleeding. Even in case of bleeding, the surgeon can minimize the amount of the loss of blood by stopping it right away by catching it on screen when it starts.
The biggest pro of using endoscopy in breast augmentation is approval of the patients. Surgeons can also be at ease, knowing there will be minimal amount of bleeding and scars. The cons of this procedure is the price of the equipment. At such high price, it is hard for smaller clinics to afford. Another disadvantage of using endoscopy is that it is difficult for inexperienced surgeons to operate on. The surgeon has to be comfortable using the equipment through experience, in order to achieve a successful outcome of the surgery.
The last con of endoscopic breast augmentation is elongated surgery time by 30 minutes. Considering the benefits listed above though, it is hard to call this a con, or a disadvantage.
